One of the congregations cooperating with the Hong An Association is the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Queen in Nam Dinh, belonging to the Diocese of Bui Chu. This is a Congregation that is loved and respected by the Executive Board of the Hong An Association. The Sisters have always “gone an extra mile” for the poor. Every month, the Sisters visit and give Hong An rice to the elderly and sick patients who do not have the ability to work. But through their loving care, the Sisters give them much more than rice.
In the past, there was an elderly woman who received rice every month. She begged for her living. Sometimes when the Sisters visited, they would help her clean the house and bathe her. She was very touched by their kindness, so she promised the Sisters, “When I get well, I will go begging to give to the Sisters!” Now that she has returned to the Lord, she will certainly be blessing the Sisters and the benefactors who unconditionally cared for her.
The Sisters always take time to listen to the other poor people share their troubles. These people are very lonely and lack companionship. Many also suffer from mental illness, so they are shunned by everyone around them. Some were abandoned by their relatives because they were tired of taking care of them. The visits by the Sisters have been a priceless comfort to these poor people.
The Sisters always thank the benefactors of the Hong An Association for their sacrifices and generosity to help the poor in their homeland. The Sisters often say: “We visit the poor very often, but since the Congregation is also poor, there are times when we don’t have gifts when visiting.
Then when we see that they are so poor, but we have nothing to help or reduce their burden, it troubles us! Since the day we received help from the Hong An Association, we feel happier and the poor are much happier. Thank you very much, Hong An Association.”
